Mad Dog Drilling Module being transferred from Signal's Port Arthur Dry Dock to transport Barge.
Semisubmersible and jackup rigs, large and small, can be dry docked at Signal International’s yards in both Mississippi and Texas. Work such as pontoon or spud can repairs, steel replacement, thruster/propulsion repair, addition of sponsons and blisters, is routinely carried out on our dry docks. Signal provides the docking plan, the cribbing and the expertise of veteran engineers and dockmasters to ensure safe, secure and ready access to the rig’s below-waterline extremities. Big rigs are dry docked one at a time, while small rigs can be accommodated two (or even three) at a time. The dock yard also facilitates the fabrication of large marine modules that can be skidded or lifted off for transport to another site for mating with the host vessel.
While implementing the client’s scope of work, Signal’s dry dock services include:
- Receipt of the rig: Provision of labor to receive and secure the rig. Provision and installation of gangway
- Berthing (Wet or Moored): Provision of adequate docking space with gangway accessibility to personnel for the duration of the job
- Scaffolding: Planning, installation and removal of scaffolding to ensure safe access to work
- Shore Power: Connection and disconnection of shore-based electrical power source using owner-furnished cable
- Potable Water: Connection and disconnection of shore-based potable water supply using owner-furnished hose
- Communication Services: Provision of telephone and PC communication lines from land-based utilities to rig-based equipment
- Waste Disposal: Provision of environmentally safe means for removing and disposing of hotel waste from work site
- Subcontractor Services: Provision of the services of specialized third-party personnel as appropriate for the task
- Materials Provision: Procurement and supplying; as required for the task and as approved by the owner’s representative; of construction materials such as steel, pipe, pipe fittings, blasting grit and disposal, paint, welding rods/wire and heat treatment fuels.
Future availability of both the Port Arthur Dock Yard and the Pascagoula Dual Carrier is posted on our Dry Dock Schedule. Using this feature, you can select the window of opportunity for your next rig dry docking. The Rig-to-Dock locator calculates the distance of a rig to either of Signal’s dry-docks.
In addition to drilling rigs, shipshape vessels and topsides modules are also routinely fabricated and serviced on Signal’s dry docks. Made-to-order cribbing is engineered and built by Signal as needed.
Dock Yard Port Arthur, Texas

Dock Yard - Port Arthur, Texas
The Dock Yard at Port Arthur is located on the east bank of Pleasure Island with frontage on the Sabine-Neches Waterway. Highway access from Port Arthur is via Route 82 ( MLK Boulevard). Maximum allowable draft of vessel to be accommodated is a variable depending on time elapsed since previous dredging of the channel. This information is updated and available on the Dry Dock Schedule. The Dock Yard data sheet provides capacity, acreage, dimensional and performance statistics.
Dual Carrier at Pascagoula East, Mississippi
Jackup on dock for mat repairs Noble Clyde Boudreaux on the Dual Carrier.
The Pascagoula Dry Dock is a mobile unit capable of handling a myriad of rigs and vessels of various shapes and sizes. Typically, the Dual Carrier is partially submerged at a deep hole in the river channel and the rig is floated over. After exact positioning, the Dual Carrier is de-ballasted thus lifting the rig out of the water. The dual carrier is typically moved to quayside and positioned for optimal reach by land-based cranes and access from gangways. The Dual Carrier data sheet provides vital capacity, deck area, dimensional and performance statistics.
