Industrial Engineer

GENERAL FUNCTION:
Plans utilization of production facilities and personnel to improve efficiency. Reports directly to the Industrial Engineering Manager and/or VP of Cost Engineering.

TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed and are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

  • Studies functional statements, organization charts and project information to determine functions and responsibilities of various workers and work units.
  • Identifies areas of overlap in duties and responsibilities. Establishes work measurement programs and makes sample observations of work to develop standards of manpower utilization.
  • Analyzes utilization of manpower and machines in units and develops work simplification programs in areas, such as work distribution, work count, process flow, economy of worker motions and layout of unit.
  • Plans space layout of units to attain objectives of work measurement and simplification studies.
  • May prepare recommendations for reorganization of units and job duties to increase efficiency and eliminate excess processing steps and labor costs.


REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Excellent interpersonal skills. Strong analytical skills. Ability to work in a team environment. Knowledge of statistical software packages is desired. Must have affinity for working in manufacturing environments.

DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE & TRAINING:
Experience in technical field, shipbuilding and production processes. Bachelor degree in technical field or equivalent experience.
